education outside the classroom

As a Hikurangi School we see the value in Education Outside of the Classroom at all year levels. Where possible we endeavour to give our tamariki a range of experiences both in and out of the classroom and inside and outside of the school grounds. We do this through day trips, sleep overs and camps.

Nga tuakana camps

Our Tuakana Syndicate have many opportunities outside of the classroom to expand their learning and test their boundaries. In recent years they have taken trips to places as far away as Auckland and even Wellington. Our Tuakana tamariki have had opportunities to rock climb, abseil, paddle board, jump off ships and even go to parliament.

Nga Teina Sleepovers

Our littliest tamariki have the opportunity each year to sleepover at school. These events are always fun and have featured water fights, bouncy castles, games, movies and heaps of delicious kai! Sleepovers are a great way for our teachers to get to know tamariki and whanau. Sleepovers are always a highlight of term activities!

nGA tEINA lake hikoi

Our tamariki love learning about our community. Last year they enjoyed going on a hikoi to Lake Waro - our local lake steeped in history. They were lucky enough to have our knowledgable Whaea Ani come and talk to us about life in  Hikurangi decades and decades ago. She then showed the tamariki these important and interesting places.

nGA tEINA WAITANGI TRIP

Boarding a bus can be pretty exciting. Nga Teina Syndicate did that very thing and went to explore Waitangi. There they learned all about our local history and the Treaty of Waitangi.
